LOTO Hardware Reference Guide
LOTO Hardware Reference Guide
Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) hardware is essential for protecting workers during maintenance and servicing of equipment. Below is a quick reference guide to the key LOTO devices used in our operations.
| LOTO Hardware | Purpose / Importance |
|---|---|
Personal Padlocks
|
These are the primary safety locks used by authorized employees to secure isolation points. Each worker applies their own lock so equipment cannot be restarted until that specific person removes it. This ensures personal control and accountability during maintenance work. |
Danger Tags
|
Tags provide visible warning information showing that equipment is under maintenance and must not be operated. They usually display the name of the person who applied the lock, department, date, and reason for isolation. Tags improve communication and prevent accidental energization. |
Lockout Hasps
|
Hasps allow multiple workers to place their individual padlocks on a single isolation point. This is important for team maintenance activities because the equipment remains locked out until every worker has removed their own lock. |
Valve Lockouts
|
These devices physically prevent valves from being opened or closed accidentally. They are critical in systems involving steam, compressed air, hot oil, water, gas, or chemicals where unexpected flow or pressure release could cause injury or equipment damage. |
Breaker Lockouts
|
Breaker lockouts secure electrical circuit breakers in the OFF position. They prevent accidental restoration of electrical power during servicing and are essential for electrical isolation safety in motors, pumps, conveyors, and production lines. |
Group Lock Boxes
|
Used during large maintenance jobs involving several people or departments. Isolation keys are placed inside the lock box, and each worker attaches their personal padlock to the box. The equipment cannot be restarted until all workers remove their locks, improving control during complex maintenance activities. |
Always follow your site's LOTO procedures and ensure all personnel are trained before performing isolation activities.
